This morning, February 7 2023, around 10 a.m., a 30-year-old young woman, Hulya, and her six-month-old baby, Ayse, were rescued from the rubble of the building where they lived in Hatay in the southern province of Turkey, 29 hours after the collapse of the building caused by the extremely violent earthquake and the consequent aftershocks of these hours.
They are hospitalized and they are doing well.
312 aftershocks followed the 2 devastating earthquakes which rocked Turkey on Monday.
More than 5,600 buildings collapsed, over 20,000 people injured and thousands of people dead. Explosions and fire to gas pipelines.
Turkish President Erdogan has declared a seven-day period of national mourning.
The tremors were so strong that they were felt up as far away as Greenland and the soil of Anatolia has moved at least three meters:
Europe and the whole world, from Russia to America, have come with great generosity and speed to help the poor people of Turkey.
More than 8,000 people have been rescued so far.
And let’s hope that this number, but only this number, may increase soon, every minute of these terrible days.
Our hearts and prayers are today with our Turkish friends at this terrible time and with all the people of Turkey and Syria affected by this horrible tragedy.
