What do we mean with NEET? What if we told you that one in four young people in Italy does not study and does not look for work? Here the NEETs are all those kids who unfortunately do not have a course of study and / or are not looking for employment.
By definition NEET is an acronym for Not [engaged] in Education, Employment or Training.
In 2020 the Italian NEETs increased, reaching 25.1% of young people. In the South the incidence is even higher, reaching 33.9%. The YOUTRHShare project is aimed at these people, a project financed by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway through the “EEA and Norway Grants Fund for Youth Employment”, and of which our training agency Sistema Turismo is a partner.
The goal of the project is to train and accompany young NEETs to employment with particular reference to girls aged between 25 and 35. The project has already had a first edition that has achieved excellent results in terms of training and in terms of employability.
Given the success, it was decided to refinance the project for a second edition and the Open Event on Friday 27 May, at the Sala Convegni del Polo Bibliotecario of Potenza, was an opportunity for the dissemination and presentation of the results achieved. it’s time to launch the new edition.
The event also gave the opportunity to respeak about on training and employment opportunities in Italy, with particular reference to the South.
A consideration that underlined the importance and the necessity of this type of interventions and cooperation between organizations.
Representing our training agency Sistema Turimo, there was the Vice President of ETN Francesco Di Bello who introduced the training program and the type of YOUTHShare internships. The project in its entirety was presented by Stelios Gialis – from the University of the Aegean and YOUTHShare Coordinator; Claudia Caggiano – from the LAG La Cittadella del Sapre and Key Account Manger YS – spoke about the YOUTHShare Italia Transnational Employment Center; and Constantino Kounas – from ARLAB and Project Managament YS – explained how the project can support social enterprise.
The central part of the event was the presence of the young people who took part in the training course, especially those who found employment. This moment was followed by the presentation of the future steps of the project by Iaannis Papageorgiou – Communication Manager YS – and by an in-depth study on the EEA & Norway Grants held by the Fund’s director, Gianluca Bombarda.
At the end of the event, the Councilor for Economic Development Policies, Labor and Community Services of the Basilicata Region, Alessandro Galella, reaffirmed the commitment and support of the institutions to the issues of training and employment of NEET youth.
